The Zero is designed to use the ford Sierra as its donor, however many different engines will fit your Zero. When choosing your donor look for good mechanicals not body work and try to get a log book with the car as this helps with registration, the Pinto (SOHC) engines are the easiest and best ones to fit in your car, if you can not find a pinto engined sierra dont worry as the engine can be changed. The Zero is designed to accommodate either the MT75 or the type 9 gearboxes fund in the Sierras, these gearboxes will except modern engines like the Zetec etc, we have a number of different engine mounts and exhausts on the shelf for different engines.
The parts that you will need from the donor regardless of engine choose are:
Front uprights and front brake assembly
Upper steering column with column switches and cowling and ignition barrel
Hand brake lever
Differential
Drive shafts and hub assembly
Rear brakes either disc or drum
Gear box rubber mount
The Sierra wiper assembly can be used but we recommend using one from an old style Mini
The Sierra instruments and wiring loom can all so be used however it is easier with our loom that is designed for the car
Gear box either type 9 or MT75
Most of the parts that are removed from the donor will require a good clean and inspection and repainting before fitting to your new car, It is useful to get a Haynes manual for the Sierra to aid this process. We do strongly recommend replacing all the brake parts like wheel cylinders, calliper seals, master cylinder and advise on new discs and pads as well as drums and shoes, we have a large stock of all these service items. On the transmission parts i.e. gearbox and diff usually all that is needed is to renew the oils and a good clean, it is worth checking the CV gaiters for damage and crack as they are easier to change on the car.
